Talipot Palm

Distribution & Habitat:[edit]

Forest in India and Sri Lanka.

Description:[edit]

One of the largest palms in the world, up to 25m tall, with costapalmate leaves up to 5m across, and petioles to 4m.

General:[edit]

Lives up to eighty years, but only flowers just before it dies. Has an inflorescence up to 6m tall, and containing several million flowers.

Culture:[edit]

Sunny, moist, but well drained position. Drought tolerant. Needs considerable space. Very slow growing.
