Swampy areas of Central and northern South America.
Description:[edit]
This is a large single trunked palm, with huge simple, or partially pinnate leaves to about 8m long, and which are erect, or shuttle-cock like. The seed is quite large, and floats.

The leaves are commonly used by the natives for thatching, and even as sails for small boats.

Warm, sheltered and moist. Very cold sensitive.
