Figure 1. S. sarawakensis in habitat, Sarawak. This plant was quite large, about 3-4 m tall.

Habitat:[edit]

Borneo (Sarawak) lowland rainforest.

Description:[edit]

A medium sized, clumping palm, to about 3-4m tall, with simple, notched leaves. It is dioecious, but male plants are unknown, so are all the existing plants vegetative offspring of a single parent ? This is unlikely, because the species is quite widespread throughout Sarawak.

General:[edit]

A very attractive plant for the tropical/warm sub-tropical garden.

Culture:[edit]

Warm, sheltered and moist.
