Bushfires occur periodically on Mt Kaputar.
Records show that major bushfires have occurred on Mt Kaputar in 1951, 1957, 1974, 1986 and 2006.
The 2006 bushfire lasted for seven weeks, beginning in November 2006 and ending in January 2007.
This fire burnt through some 14,500 hectares out of a total area of 41,000 hectares;
but, fortunately for the environment, it was generally a low intensity fire.
