{{PalmSpeciesHeader}} __NOTOC__ <div class="row"> <div class="small-0 large-5 columns"> [[File:Trithrinax_schizophylla02.jpg|frame|Figure 1. ''T. schizophylla'']] </div> <div class="small-0 large-7 columns"> ===Synonymy:=== ''T. biflabellata'' ===Common Names:=== Carandilla<br/> Palma de monte.<br/> ===Distribution & Habitat:=== It's rare to find many of these palms in wild. They grow naturally in valleys, and near to rivers in sandy soils, from the northwest of Argentina to Bolivia. ===Description:=== Palmate leaves, clustering trunks with spines in the tops (as opposed to ''T. biflabellata'', which is unarmed), green to grey leaves, with long petioles, and long spines between the petioles. Leaves have the top divided in two. Looks like a dainty form of a ''Trithrinax campestris''. ===General:=== This palm is very rare in cultivation, probably because its very difficult to find, and there are no roads are in its habitat. This generates low interest amongst the collectors. ===Culture:=== Sun to middle shade position. Very cold resistent. Sandy soils. Lots of water. Grows relatively fast. Seeds are small, round, red/brown. Difficult to germinate, only in some special conditions. Would need some cool during night for good germination. ''T. schizophylla'' likes shade and later (when big), searches for the sun in the forest. It likes the damp conditions. </div> </div> <div class="row"> <div class="small-0 large-6 columns"> [[File:Trithrinax_schizophylla03.jpg|frame|Figure 2.
