Figure 1. S. magnifica in cultivation, south-east Queensland.

Habitat:[edit]

Moist areas at the base of cliffs, in Borneo rainforest.

Description:[edit]

An extremely impressive palm, with very long (to 6m), undivided leaves. It is a clustering palm, which doesn't trunk. Very spiny.

General:[edit]

A truly stunning palm which is slowly becoming more common in collections, but is still very expensive.

Culture:[edit]

Warm, sheltered, lightly shaded, very moist position. Prefers a tropical climate, but plants can be grown quite successfully in the warm subtropics.
