Description:
A massive, solitary, palm with a hapaxanthic mode of growth (the plant dies after setting seed). It has a greyish trunk up to 27 metres (90 feet) tall, with large, partially segmented, palmate leaves up to 3 metres (9 feet) across, on the end of 3 metre (9 feet) long petiole, armed with black teeth. These are one of the largest palmate leaves of any plant.
Cultivation:
Likes a sunny, warm (tropical/sub-tropical) position, with plenty of water. Moderately slow growing.
